About ASEA

The management staff at ASEA now has over 80 years of design and manufacturing experience in the AC Power Conversion Market.

Products designed by ASEA's engineering staff can be found throughout the commercial, marine, and military markets with power levels ranging from 250VA to 800kVA. We believe this design expertise has now been transferred into the best Shore Power Converter available in today's market.

Initial Survey

Prior to the selection of your new Shore Power Converter, a member of our technical staff will visit your vessel to perform a power requirement survey. After completing the survey a report is generated covering the existing power demands of the vessel, anticipated increases in power consumption, input service considerations, and installation recommendations.

On-Site Service and Maintenance

The ASEA Power Systems line of Shore Power Converters has been carefully designed to provide years of trouble-free operation with a minimum of maintenance.

But, equipment will fail! Due to this simple fact, our systems have been designed for modular replacement by either the ships engineer, your local service organizations personnel, or a factory service technician. All modules can be replaced with simple hand tools, and are light enough to be shipped overnight by most express services. Most common modules are stocked at the factory for rapid exchange.

In addition to the Installation and Operations Manual supplied with the converter, a Service Manual can be ordered by those wishing to service the equipment themselves. Before providing this manual, ASEA Power Systems factory personnel will first determine if the customer or his assigned agent are felt to possess the skills required to safely perform common service procedures. This is done with regard to the safety of the persons involved and should not be construed as an insult.

If requested, factory personnel can be dispatched for repair service or scheduled maintenance by contacting our service department.

Marine Converter Product Line Description

ASEA Power Systems' line of high performance Shore Power Converters set new standards for size, weight, efficiency, cost, and performance. Power Levels range from 8-105kVA (1 Phase) to 25-500kVA (3 Phase). Each converter will accept any input (Shore Power) service between 40-70Hz and 170-520VAC, producing the desired, pre-programmed output power form required by your yacht.

Dual conversion is the preferred technique for high performance AC power conversion. This conversion technique is standard on every ASEA Power Systems' product. Utilizing this technology, the shore power service is isolated by transformers, then converted to DC (Direct Current) power by the PFC (Power Factor Corrected) Power Supply. Then high efficiency, high performance amplifiers (inverters) convert DC voltage to AC (Alternating Current) voltage. This dual conversion technique will produce various AC voltages at specified frequencies to form the correct power form required by the yacht and its loads.

ASEA Power Systems' comprehensive line of Shore Power Converters has been designed specifically for the yachting industry. This careful attention to detail has produced a system capable of sustaining the harshest marine environment. Each model is packaged in a drip-proof, stainless steel enclosure with conformally coated printed circuit boards. All major components are modular in design, allowing a simple module exchange in the unlikely event of failure. Complete maintenance and service can be accomplished with front access only.

System operation is managed through three basic operators. A safety disconnect which provides for securing input service during maintenance and two sealed, waterproof, membrane switch groups which provide control over normal system operations.

In addition to providing a high performance power conversion system, all units feature sophisticated power analysis and monitoring capabilities. All parameters associated with input and output power, along with operations and status information, are available on the front panel display console.
